No Cracks, Easy Peel, Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs

How many hard boiled eggs will you be boiling for Easter, I know I will be hard boiling my share of eggs to be seen this year. I like no less than a dozen per person for dyeing. Decorating eggs is an additional fun family tradition. Besides, I love hard boiled eggs. They are a real quick, easy, portable snack. Deviled eggs are something I tend to make only in spring and I am eager for them. I have had a lot of hard boiled eggs who have that green ring throughout the yolk.

Once I tasted a wonderfully hard boiled egg, I knew I could never get back on dry, crumbly yolks. But regardless how hard I tried, I got the timing wrong and wound up with the green ring.

Over time, I have found a way that I considered to be perfect. Then I found this pin and used it, and after this there is often a new tool during my bag of cooking tricks. The first step to no cracks, easy peel, perfect hard boiled eggs is to try using eggs which can be a week old. Older eggs are much easier to peel.

The second step is to lay a clean white cotton kitchen towel who are holding cards. I got this tip from my amazing mother-in-law (I have discussed earlier how good she actually is at all things homemaking. She raised her 5 kids using a farm where she grew, canned, cooked and sewed everything herself!

She even made her very own Easter candy! The towel provides a cushion to the eggs when the water boils the eggs don’t jostle and knock against one another and get cracks. You can do many eggs in a very large pot that way if you lay the towel among layers of eggs. I like this when I am making a great deal of eggs for Easter. I can perform a large batch, and so they come out suitable for dyeing. Fold the towel above the eggs and fill the pot with plenty of water to protect the eggs. Here is the new Pinterest tip I learned from The Kitchn via Pinterest. Add 1/4 tsp baking soda to the lake.

The Kitchn explains the way changes the pH level and means they easier to peel. Bring the stream to a rolling boil. Not just bubbling, but rolling. Boil for 1 minute, then switch off the heat leave the eggs within the pan of water until cooled. Drain water and you’re done.

Perfect for Easter egg dyeing. I like to make enough for every week, peel them at once and store within a ziploc bag to get a quick snack on a tight schedule. I find when I start peeling by the end where there's a bubble of air, it may help get in the skin and peeling goes easier. I compared eggs boiled with and without baking soda determined baking soda did make an impact. Get crackin’ and luxuriate in your eggs.

I followed the directions TO THE LETTER…Eggs chilled, TIME TO PEEL - the first few were making me mad. They were the most difficult eggs to peel that I’ve EVER done. 3-4 minutes each for getting all the egg shell over eggs. Little tiny pieces - Had to rinse them to be sure likewise. THEN I found an egg that peeled into two halves!

Next few, tough to peel then ANOTHER PERFECT peel egg. And Another….3 Eggs in this batch of 21 Eggs were GREAT. I checked the date within the cartons plus it turned out the “Best if used by” dates were a fortnight apart! Turns out the whole carton was grabbed at the store TODAY by my Lady! Those eggs were TOO FRESH.

The others were about 2 weeks old inside the fridge. HOWEVER ALL THE EGGS WERE COOKED PREFECT! Yolks were YELLOW to GOLD (no green) and they also are SO TENDER! Thank you for offering this tip….I wandered in here coming from a google search determined you. I appear to have VERY inconsistant peeling from hard boiled eggs AND it turns out the way I have been performing it all these years causes green yolks.
